Ann & Dan’s Excellent Adventures

One Step Closer

One Step Closer

This isn’t going to be a long one. This week we had another bittersweet moment that brings us one step closer to Portugal. Beast’s new owners flew in from Park City, Utah to pick her up this past Thursday. She’s going to a good home and leaving us with a lot of wonderful memories, most of them documented here in the blog!

Thanks Beast!

As I mentioned in the post about transitioning to Capture One, Ann and I are using that as an opportunity to re-evaluate our image libraries.  Of course, we’re evaluating images we’ve worked on, learning what we can from those images and discovering aspects to them we hadn’t previously appreciated.  And then there are the images we hadn’t recognized during the first go-around but now see why we made the image in the first place.  But there’s something else, much less photographic, that we’ve gotten out of the image review process.

Ann and Dan's Grand Fall Adventure - Beast!

Ann and I hit the road this morning on our 2018 Grand Fall Adventure, but we’d be remiss to not blog about Beast as the adventure begins.  She’s our traveling companion (along with Jack) and then some.  Without her, we wouldn’t be going anywhere.  Well, at least not in the style to which we’ve become accustomed.  And since we haven’t really done a good walk around/through of Beast, it’s about time we do just that.  Face it, Beast is going to be our off-road mobile home for the next month.  That and the fact that Ann and I never pass up an opportunity to show her off!

If you haven’t explored our website and found the “Gotta Get the Gear” video - STOP - you should head over to the MORE on the top menu bar and go to the OUR GEAR dropdown menu link and watch the Portlandia - Get the Gear video (linked page - so you don’t even have to navigate there).  It explains everything.  Well, pretty much everything about the next two posts.  Now that you’ve done that, let’s talk about the camera gear and back-up solutions Ann and I will be using this trip.

The Grand Staircase-Escalante - Part 1

We woke up the next morning in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.  Given that we arrived so late in the evening, we hadn’t had a chance to scout out a decent photography site so we didn’t quite know where we wanted to be at first light.  However, we’d photographed in the area during our last trip to Utah and had a few ideas.  So we made some coffee, packed up Beast and headed up the road towards Boulder once there was enough light to see the surroundings.

Fresno Trip - Stage 3 Sportsmobile West, Fresno

The next stage of our trip was the ultimate reason why we were on the road - to make a trip to Sportsmobile West to finalize details about our vehicle build even though the vehicle itself hasn’t arrived in country. Apparently the Mercedes 4x4 Sprinter has been in high demand and there was a backlog of building them in Germany.
