Website Update - Dan’s Europe Galleries

For lack of a better reason, I decided to go through the page updates by country in alphabetical order.  If you want to go directly to the main Europe galleries page where you see links to each of the countries, just click here.  There you can peruse to your heart’s content.

I’d initially thought that I would do a UK (United Kingdom) page, but then thought better of it - why not give England and Scotland their own pages.  So we start off with England.  There were plenty of images from England, namely because we did two workshops there in 2024 and spent a few extra days on our own there.  The parts of England we were able to see were beautiful and I have no doubt that is the case throughout the country.  No wonder there is so much excellent landscape photography from that island nation.  It seems to have everything except wide-open desert.

Germany is next on our list.  There you’ll see a mix of images taken from short trips there in 2022 (to sign-off on the bimobil) and in 2024 (to the Kellerwald-Edersee area).  We really should get there more often.

Our next country takes us back west, to photographs taken during our short trip to Ireland with John and Judy.  It wasn’t a photography trip per se, but you know us, never go any place new without some type of camera.  I can see why people love it there, it is rich in history and the landscape is beautiful, even if we didn’t get to explore much of what caught our eye.

Naturally, you’ll find a gallery for the Netherlands.  It’s home, and like Germany we really haven’t explored it as much as we should.  Our first trip to the Netherlands, to sign residency application paperwork and to scout areas to possibly live left us some free time to explore Amsterdam.  And once the bimobil was registered and we received our drivers licenses, we started taking weekend trips to different parts of the country.  It is a beautiful place, despite being very, very flat for the most part.

The one European country galleries that saw updates was Portugal. We added the Portugal and Madeira pages after our trip to Madeira, but hadn’t updated it since.  So I’ve added a few more images to the Portugal page, most of them taken with the Q2MR during our morning and afternoon walks and when showing folks around the country.

The gallery for our UK companion - Scotland - contains way fewer images than we’d hoped for.  That’s in large part due to the fact that the weather was very unkind for us.  The positive reframe is that Scotland showed us its true character, but we would have loved to see a bit more than cloud shroueded mountains and heavy overcast skies, and a bit more of the 4-seasons in a day type weather.  Still, you can see the beauty of the country from the few real opportunities we had.

Last, but not least, is the Sweden gallery.  We really weren’t sure what to expect when we decided to explore southern Sweden in early spring 2024.  Some places we thought would be perfect were lovely, but not photographically rewarding, and other places we really didn’t expect much and were blown off our feet.  I suspect that if we were to be living there, the photography would be very rich as you get to learn the landscape.  As it was, it was a wonderful and rewarding first long trip in the bimobil.

That’s it for the latest updates.  And there is more to come.  We haven’t been doing a lot of photography lately because we’re getting ready for a trip back to the States and we’re bogged down with renewing residency visas, beginning of the year household matters and very socked in, unappealing weather in the Netherlands.  So it’s catch-up time for the website.

Enjoy!
