Morning Walk Playground
I’d gotten up early the morning I made the Sometimes a Surprise image. I’d walked awhile and not pulled out the camera, so I decided to take one of Ann and my common alternate walk routes and turned left instead of heading right down the hill. That route takes us by a playground that I usually don’t pay much attention to, but did that morning
What caught my eye was how well lit it was (my thinking about light and night images is greatly affected by the amount of light in a scene . . . go figure), and then the three lamp posts that quickly became my focus of attention. As I lifted the camera I decided the lights needed some context and the bench and the slide were just the thing.
I decided to work my way around the playground to see what else I could get, trying to find interesting combinations of lights, structures and shows and, more importantly, trying to then prevent really glaring conflicts.
The more elements you have in a scene that you’re trying to compose around, the more difficult it becomes to get a clean image.
After awhile I decided to try and keep it simple and to focus on one or two elements and their shadows.
I eventually left the playground to make the Sometimes a Surprise image. Afterwards, I headed across the bridge that takes you down the street, and stopped for one last image looking the way I’d come.
Strange enough, those were the only images I made that walk.
Sometimes that’s all you need to feel good about the day.
