Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Everyone!
I think I started the New Year right this year, staying up last night with some friends from the Embassy, chatting with Ann before heading off to bed, and starting my day (and new year) with several hours of reading a well written, entertaining book that was all fun and no work. I guess at some point I’ll need to get back to the business of life, but for today I’m taking it easy and only doing what I feel like doing. And right now that means writing my blog.
2013 will again be a year of change. That’s unfortunate because I enjoy the work and the people here in Liberia and there is so much more to do, but that is the consequences of my choices. Then again, that change will give me another opportunity to explore the world and its people in ways I didn’t imagine 4 years ago. So the adventure continues even as the fear of uncertainty churns within my stomach. Thank goodness I’m an optimist and have confidence that things will work out well so long as I do my part.
I wish all of us a happy, productive and prosperous new year! I’ve learned many things in Liberia and much about Liberians. I’ve learned the importance of reaching out to people in ways that build bonds. So last night, right after midnight struck, I sent text messages wishing several Liberian colleagues a Happy New Year! I’ve received the same response from all of them.
So for all of you who wish me a happy new year, I reply - Many Happy Returns!
