Leaving Zanzibar
It was a short day and a half, but I experienced enough to know that I’d like to go back to Zanzibar again. As the ferry pulled out, I stayed on the upper outdoor deck to photograph a bit.
I’m glad I did because I saw some very interesting things I doubt I would have seen if I’d been inside relaxing in a comfortable chair.
From the shoreline of Zanzibar, you can see near-by islands. What you don’t see, that you can see from the boat as you get farther and farther away, is that some of the islands are small beaches and little else.
We also passed a dhow and I got to see a very different view of that - at least for Zanzibar - common-place boat.
And just before I went below deck I looked backwards and saw a very interesting scene out in the distance with heavy overcast skies and light breaking through. The darkness in the distance stood in stark contrast to the brightness around us.
