The Hotel

I took some time for myself today.  I decided not to go out to eat for dinner and instead stayed at the hotel to do a bit of photography.  It was nice to simply relax and especially to think about seeing things differently.  I had my trusty Fuji - no zoom lens, just a simple single focal length lens camera - and worked with what I had.  And that was the hotel grounds:

It’s amazing what you start to notice when you slow down and simply look around.

Then I started working with palm tree abstractions.  I’m still not proficient enough to manipulate color images to make them compelling, but I haven’t forgotten everything about black and white.  Here’s palm tree bark:

And a branch:

Of course, I didn’t totally abandon color:

And from my new room I noticed I could get on top of the building that’s in the background on the first shot.  As the sun set tonight, this is what I photographed.

Photography being what it is, I couldn’t pass up the chance for a vertical shot too:

What a nice way to spend an evening.
