Loffa River

One of the main rivers that leads to Monrovia is the Loffa River.  We crossed it on our way to Voinjama and I told Andrew that I wanted to stop there on the way back, so we did.

There really wasn’t a good vantage point to shoot the bridge itself from this side because of the vegetation and the drop-off along the side of the road, but I guess I could have walked back across the bridge to where the road curves to the right.  As we were pressed for time (we had to get to Gbarnga by a set time due to State Department Driver Regulations), and a stop to make in Zorzor in-between, we really didn’t have much time to spend there - otherwise I would have climbed down to the river for some real shots.

It really was the worst time of day to photograph anything - early afternoon on a pretty hot and hazy day - but a polarizing filter helped a bit and, face it, the river itself is interesting.

I could imagine coming here and spending time along the river and it’s rocks - photographing at different times of day and under different conditions.  And, as you can see, folks use the river for fishing and other things, so I’m sure there is always something happening that suits the camera.

Oh well, I sure hope there is a next time with more time.
