Now Where Am I Going To?
Well, my bags are packed and I'm ready for my last day of class tomorrow. My flight leaves at 9:50 pm from Dulles and I'll be on my way. I just don't know exactly where I'm headed. Yes, it's still Iraq, but the powers that be are reassessing where I'll be the most useful. I guess you could say I'm a hot commodity, except I'm balding and 50, not so hot.
The reality is that the same things that make the next year such an important and interesting point in Iraq's history are the same things that are leading the State Department to reevaluate where I should be located. The last combat forces pulled out of Iraq today. By the end of next year, all US military forces are scheduled to be out of Iraq, with the State Department carrying much of their load and the Iraqi people carrying the rest. I will be part of making that transition successful. So figuring out where I will be most effective is important. Which is fine with me.
I had dinner with Lauren and the guys last night. It was a nice send-off.
I'll let everyone know where I am when I get there. (That sounds like something Yogi Berra would say!)
