It’s nice knowing that someone . . . something, agrees with me!
A couple of weeks ago on one of my trips downstairs to visit Ann, we were chatting about something and I kept looking at some images on Ann’s computer. When she finished telling me what was on her mind, she asked me what I kept looking at. I told her I was looking at a couple of images on her monitor from her Lightroom catalog. “Which images?” I told her a couple of close-up images. “Why?” “Because they’re different than what you usually photograph, and I think they’re pretty good.” So we started talking about them.
Eventually came the dreaded question, “How would you rate them?” I thought about it a bit and said, “I’d rate the black and white image as a four star, and the color as a three star - using my rating system.” For me, a three star image is a decent image I’m not embarrassed to show someone. It’s the minimum standard I expect from myself if I’m going to make an exposure. A four star image is one that I think is very strong, but not necessarily exceptional, those are five star images.
Here they are:
Ann, naturally asked me why I rated them as I did, so I started explaining why I thought that to be the case, why both had merit, but why I thought the black and white image rose above a three and why the color did not.
Then I asked the dreaded question, “Have you run them through the plug-in?” Ann responded, “No, but we can!” and initiated the process.
You can see for yourself, Claude agreed with me. The black and white had an AI Suggested Rating of 4 stars . . .
and the color image had an AI Suggested Rating of three stars.
I might actually know what I’m talking about! It’s good to have some confirming, positive reinforcement, even if it is from an AI.
