Flowers

I’ll be the first to admit that high-quality flower photography is both an art and a highly technical endeavor.  Technically one I don’t really have and, well, am not excited enough about the subject to take the time to master (focus stacking . . . just doesn’t seem appealing).  That doesn’t mean that flowers aren’t attractive as a subject on occasion, so sometimes I’ll get the itch to play a bit with the camera.  That’s where the simple point-and-shoot cameras come in handy - it’s easier to play around with close focus images with those cameras than with the bigger cameras.

So when we came across some lovely blooms during our walks through the Openluchtmuseum, I couldn’t help but stop and give it a go.

Yeah, all hand-held, little control over focusing and certainly a much smaller sensor than usual (ok, not for the Q2MR), but still, it turned out to be very enjoyable with the occasional surprising result.

As long as you can accept working with limitations (and knowing that way more images are going to be failures than successes), you can have fun.  As I hinted above, even the Q2MR has a collar that shifts the lens elements into a macro mode to allow you to get really close to a subject.

Surprisingly, the Q2MR can focus much closer than can the point-and-shoot Leica.

And every once in a while, you come out with an image that impresses you.

I tell you, having some photography fun while you’re having fun with family . . . that’s hard to beat!
