Iceland F899

After the change in weather we experienced at the Hverir geothermal areas, the forecast for the next few days didn’t look so good.  We decided to alter our plans and spend a couple of days in Akuteyri. The biggest town in the north, before setting out on our first F-Road adventure.

There was still inclement weather the morning we set out, though during the part of the day we were driving on the track we saw nothing more than winds.  The winds intensified as we approached the coast and by the time we’d set up camp, the winds were howling and while we scouted around for photographs the rains started falling.  We went to be hoping the next morning would give us better conditions.

We woke up to beautiful, pre-dawn skies.  After our morning espresso, we headed out to photograph.  It was a cold, but lovely morning and, just as importantly, the wind had died down.

So Ann and I took our time, photographing in the immediate area around our campsite, taking advantage of the type of views you get when you travel to a remote part of Iceland in one of the few places you don’t have to pay to camp.

We took our time as the early morning progressed, experimenting with image-making after the initial, get-you-excited images had been made.  Eventually, we headed in for breakfast and getting ready to head back to civilization.

When we stepped out of the bimobil, we realized the sun was doing lovely things to the landscape, so our departure got put on hold as we dragged out our camera gear again.

It’s amazing how changed light conditions can transform a landscape, even one you photographed mere moments earlier.  So we took our time again, making as many images as our creativity could muster.  Only then did we head out the way we came in, happy for having delayed our F899 excursion for a couple of days.
