On Doors Windows Walls and Graphics

I’ve mentioned on occasion that Ann will call me over to check something out while we’re photographing.  I’m not quite sure what it is, but there is something about Ann’s, “Hey, Dan, you might want to check this out!” voice that is calling me over to look at something interesting or beautiful and her, “Hey, Dan, you might want to check this out!” voice that means, “I think you might want to photograph this!”  Sometimes she just comes out and says it, but much of the time, it’s just a tone in her voice.  And she’s usually right.  Generally it’s some type of abstract composition that she knows I love to look at (and photograph), but she can’t quite make heads or tails of what to do with it.  Regardless, I’ve come to learn I should head over to wherever the voice is coming from quickly because I’ll likely have some fun.

So it shouldn’t have come as much of a surprise when, during one of our outings with Korenza and Soleis when I had the Q2MR with me, Ann mentioned, “Oh, just keep walking.  Dan can’t pass an interesting door without taking a picture.  Sometimes it doesn’t look like much, until you see the photograph.”  And they kept on walking.  That story popped into my mind the other day, so I decided to revisit the images from that day, and then some of the others.  Of course, Ann was right.

Here’s the image I took while they were walking away.

But as I thought about it, I realized that it isn’t really just doors, …

it’s also windows, walls and graphics.  Of course light plays a big role in things, especially when it’s a three-dimensional subject,

but not always.  (Pardon the excessively graphic nature of the graphic image below.)

And sometimes it’s just something very interesting to look at.

Regardless, it’s things like these that make an urban landscape interesting to me.

Compositions aren’t just to be found in nature on rocks, trees or beaches!

Ann knows that too.

All it takes is one … and sometimes not even that.
