That Jackass!

On that first morning during our trip to Bandon it took Ann a long while to finally see a composition that really excited her.  Compositionally, it wasn’t easy and she had to really work the image - finding the right framing, what to include, what to exclude.  As it often does, it means moving forwards or, as in this case backwards, until everything is just right.  It takes time, focus, and decision making skills.  And sometimes, as you’ve finally figured out the right composition, a Jackass comes walking into your field of view!

Now he may not look like much, but once you know he’s there (look at the light colored triangle at the base where the slit in the big rocks is) the eye goes right to him.  How do we know it’s a him?  Well . . . guess who it was?  Ann tried yelling to me (and I certainly would have moved), but the distance and the sound of the surf pretty much drowned that out.  Plus, I too was doing my own concentrating and thinking so the Jolly Green Giant could have probably walked up from behind and tapped me on the shoulder and I wouldn’t have noticed it.  That or I’m just a Jackass.

Sometimes, well pretty much always, you can’t escape your inner nature.  And just to prove that the latter (I’m a Jackass) is probably more true than the former, guess what happened again later that morning?

I admit it, given I did the same thing the last time we were in Bandon (remember the shooting the shooter post?), and twice this time, I’m a Jackass.

Ann, on the other hand, only did it to me once this photo trip.  But I’d never ever think of calling her a Jackass.   That’s because the image I’d been considering wasn’t nearly as good as Ann’s two images and she was helping me out by not letting me take a bad photograph . . . .*

*Non-cruelty Statement:  No Jackasses were harmed physically, mentally or emotionally in the making of this blog post.  The term Jackass, when appropriately used in the proper tone, can be a term of endearment and acceptance of another’s innate faults, even if intended to still convey the fact that one is a Jackass.  One should always correctly use the term Jackass so as to not harm another, or not use the term at all.
