Shooting the Shooter - Ann, Redwoods, Snow
Photographing the Redwoods in the snow was quite unexpected. But as one can easily imagine, it is an incredibly beautiful place to simply be. From our first steps into the grove we were in awe. It’s also a great place for a shooting the shooter segment.
Very early in our walk into the Lady Bird Johnson Grove I stopped to make a composition (unsuccessful). When I was done I turned around to find Ann making her first photograph of the day.
She was much more successful than I was. Ann was able to capture the incredible beauty that awaited us along the entire trail.
Later on down the trail I stopped to photograph a snow-covered branch that wrapped around a tree trunk. Afterward, when I hustled to catch up with ann, this is how I found her.
She was in the midst of figuring out exactly where her camera needed to be. She’d move forward a bit, back a bit. But she was finally able to resolve the view between the trees.
I suspect that no matter how many times we return to the Redwoods, we’re unlikely to capture a snow-filled morning quite like that one.
