Fresno Trip - Stage 6 The Klamath National Wildlife Refuge

The trip to Klamath Falls was a long one.  Not only did we arrive well after dark, it had started raining during the last couple of hours of driving.  We weren’t in the desert anymore.

We woke up to more rain, but because you never know what you’re going to get and since this was our last stop on our trip, we decided to head out to places we had scouted out on our first leg of the trip.

We had no problem finding our desired location in the dark, we’d mapped it.  So we sat there in the dark, and the rain.  It kept raining and raining, and in time the sky lightened up.  We definitely weren’t going to get the incredible skies we’d seen the previous week.  We also realized that the conditions at the site had changed since we were there last.  On the positive side, the water level of the refuge had risen a bit.  On the negative side, someone had apparently driven their vehicle on the grasses and there were obvious tire tracks running through the grasses that we had thought we’d use as the foreground.  Nix on the location.

By the time we realized it wasn’t going to work out, the rain had pretty much stopped, but the clouds clearly indicated that the threat of rain remained.  Ann and I decided that a hot breakfast at Cinders was a better alternative so I turned around and headed towards town.

But . . .  yes that “but again” . . . on the way there I looked over and realized that the morning might not be a total photographic waste of time.  So I pulled over as soon as I could, grabbed my camera gear and crossed the street.

After a few minutes, Ann joined me, and we silently kept photographing.

After not too long, we realized that we were chilled to the bone and a hot breakfast at Cinders sounded even better now than it did just a bit ago, so we made our final shots and were on our way.

It may have been only 20 minutes, but it was a nice way to end our trip.  And, as is always the case at Cinders, breakfast was delicious!
