Pea Pod Pen
Folks, it’s been a very odd week.
I spent a couple of days in Buchanan (more to come on that, except for the fact that . . . read on) at the beginning part of the week but came home to find out that the Lightroom 4.2 beta version I had been running has been suspended - “You must upgrade to the Lightroom 4.2 Release version - you can do so by clicking ‘here’”. Well, at 400+ megabytes, it would take over 24 hours to download here if, and only if, I’m so lucky that the line does not cut out or some other interruption doesn’t happen. Fortunately, a couple of weeks ago I asked Ann to download the Lightroom 4.2 release, put it on a jump drive and send it to me. All, good an well, except for the fact that Sandy hit the East Coast and we’ve been told that mail for the next 10 days may be interrupted due to the lack of flights and consequent backlog of packages. Now, we aren’t suffering like folks on the East Coast so I can’t complain. But what that does mean is that I can’t access my photos to work on them so they look nice, and I can’t download my photos and see them through Apple’s regular viewer (one of the disadvantages of shooting raw). So I can’t really post any photos, which means I can’t really blog. Whew! That was a mouthful.
So, until I get that jump drive, postings are going to be very non-visual. And yes, I now owe you postings, with photos, from Buchanan as well as from my vacation (I haven’t forgotten). Man has it been a crazy month since I’ve been back in Liberia.
On the bright side, I was sent an image (.jpg) by e-mail on Halloween. And around here the embassy organized a trick-or-treat that went to all of the apartment buildings (each behind guarded walls) for a group of about 15 kids (mostly 3-8 years old). I had bought two big bags of candy, which meant each kid got a handful of candy. Of course I had a bit left over, so I left the remainder in the bowl outside my door as the crowd made its way upstairs. A few minutes later I heard an, “Oh, wow! Look at that!” as the other kids were leading the pack downstairs. I heard the metal bowl clang a few times and, a minute later, one of the parents was kind enough to ring my doorbell to let me know the bowl was empty. It was fun seeing the kids and it helped me feel like part of a community. Which overseas is very nice.
As for the photo? Well, it was of Penelope - Pea Pod Pen. Pretty darned cute she is!
