Thanks Mom

Today was Sa'ad's birthday.  And for lunch we had an Iraqi feast.  Unfortunately, it wasn't until well into the lunch did I find out that everything had been cooked by Sa'ad's mother, so I don't have a photograph of the spread.  But she made enough to feed the PRT, for lunch and for dinner, so I ate well twice today. This is what I brought home for dinner.  From the upper left corner:  dolmas (grape leaves surrounding a variety of stuffings - rice, peppers, eggplant, vegetables); lamb kebob; roasted tomatoes (real tomatoes, not ones shipped 6,000 miles from the US); schwarma (roasted and sliced meats - beef and chicken); and on the bottom left, Iraqi rice with several types of rice, raisins, nuts, peas, etc.  I didn't bring home either of two kinds of roasted/barbequed chicken, or a couple of other dishes that the PRT emptied. And of course, all the bread was gone too.

Imagine all of this done up on three giant platters about 2 feet in diameter, along with numerous other trays filled with different types of vegetables and meats.  Like I said, it was a feast.  Thanks Sa'ad's mom.

Oh yeah, Happy Birthday Sa'ad!
